QUEENS, N.Y. - The Georgetown University baseball team battled back-and-forth with St. John's through 11 innings before falling to the Red Storm 10-9 on Sunday. The Hoyas dropped to 29-21 overall and 8-10 in BIG EAST play while the Red Storm jumped to 22-28-1 overall and 7-9-1 in conference action.
"That was an unbelievable baseball game. I'm really proud of how our guys competed and fought back multiple times in this game after being down. Unfortunately, we came up a little bit short and it really came down to who hit last.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Meyer put forth a career day in Queens, smacking a pair of homers and logging a personal-best six RBIs.
- Jake Hyde produced a 2-for-5 day at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Andrew Ciufo went 2-for-3 with two tallies and two RBIs to round out those with multiple hits.
- Tony Barreca and Ubaldo Lopez each scored one run for the Hoyas.
- Christian Ficca smashed his fourth home run of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a double play to end the first and a strikeout/batter's interference combo to close out the second, the Hoyas put a two-spot on the board in the third. Hyde and Meyer smacked back-to-back sacrifice flies to right, bringing Barreca and Ciufo around to score (2-0).
- St. John's quickly responded with four runs in the home half of the third (4-2).
- Ficca roped a solo shot to right in the fourth, cutting the Hoya deficit to one (4-3).
- The Blue & Gray recaptured the lead in the fifth on a two-run shot from Meyer (5-4).
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Johnnies took a three-run advantage after scoring four times in the frame (8-5).
- Georgetown responded with three tallies in the seventh, behind Meyer's three-run shot to tie the game at eight.
- Ciufo broke the deadlock in the eighth with the team's third sacrifice fly of the game, giving GU a 9-8 edge.
- Redfern shut down SJU in the home half of the eighth by retiring three of the four batters he faced on strikes.
- With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, St. John's extended the game with a game-tying solo homer (9-9).
- Both teams were held off the board until the Red Storm walked off in the bottom of the 11th inning (10-9).
OF NOTE
- The Hoyas have tallied 417 strikeouts on the season, second-most in a single season behind 2019's mark of 488.
