Hoyas Down Navy 7-6 on Wednesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Graduate student Ethan Stern smashed two home runs to help the Georgetown University baseball team knock off Navy 7-6 at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. The Hoyas jumped to 27-19 overall while the Midshipmen fell to 19-26 on the year.

"What a great night of college baseball. Two great teams and Navy is an unbelievable, well-coached team and gave us everything they could tonight. Ethan Stern had a special night, hitting two home runs when we needed them early. The game slowed down and Jack Weeks came in for two innings to get big stops and he did. Late in the game, our offense scored two critical runs and then Ayden Head, with the bases loaded, nobody out, to come in and get out of that situation, that is as good as you are going to see." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on today's win

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Stern logged his second multi-homer game of the season, driving in five runs and scoring twice in his 2-for-5 day at the dish.
  • Nolan Matsko and Jake Hyde also registered a pair of hits, combining for two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Ubaldo Lopez went 1-for-3 with two walks, two tallies and an RBI.
  • Owen Carapellotti, Christian Ficca and Cam Meyer rounded out those with hits, each recording one apiece.
  • Weeks picked up his second win of the season behind two perfect innings and a pair of strikeouts.
  • Head earned his third save of 2022, staving off the Midshipmen's threat in the ninth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Navy took a 2-0 lead in the first before Ubaldo Lopez threw a laser to the dish for a 7-2 putout for the final out of the frame.
  • The Hoyas quickly responded in the bottom of the first with a Stern two-run shot to left, knotting the game at two.
  • In the top of the second, the Midshipmen reclaimed the lead, scoring a tally for a 3-2 lead.
  • Stern delivered his second home run of the game, sending a three-run dinger to left and taking a 5-3 edge.
  • The Midshipmen cut their deficit in half with one run in the top of the fourth (5-4).
  • Both squads were held off the board until back-to-back singles from Hyde and Lopez in the eighth helped GU to a 7-4 advantage.
  • Navy did not go down quietly, scoring two runs in the final frame before Head shut the door for Georgetown's 27th win of the season (7-6).
