Wu Earns BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Honors

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team was picked second in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday as the Hoyas were awarded 93 points and seven first place votes. Additionally, senior captain Daniel Wu was named the BIG EAST Co-Preseason Defensive Player of the Year as well as a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.

  • Named Second Team All-BIG EAST in 2021.
  • Wu started all 17 games he appeared in before suffering a season-ending injury.
  • He had one goal and two assists for four points on the year.
  • The goal came against Seton Hall.
  • Wu was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on 9/14 as well as being selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on 9/13. He was also tabbed on the honor roll on 9/27.
  • Selected as a 2022 team captain.
  • Earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch list earlier this month.
Preseason Poll
  • Providence was selected first with 94 points and four first place votes followed by the Hoyas. St. John's checked in at third in the preseason poll with 79 points, followed by Creighton with 71. Rounding out the top five was Butler with 60 points.
  • The second half of the poll included Villanova with 59 points, Marquette in seventh with 49 points, UConn and DePaul sitting at eighth and ninth with 38 and 23 points, respectively. Seton Hall had 22 points and Xavier finished it off with 17.
  • Earlier this month, the Hoyas were selected at No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.

  • GU will host Virginia Tech in an exhibition game at Shaw Field on Saturday.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
