WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's women's golf team currently sits in a tie for seventh place following the first round of play at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational that welcomed a field of 19 teams to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Gonzaga University is the host of the three-day tournament held at the Coeur d'Alene Resort on a par-71, 6,085-yard course that saw the Hoyas post a team score of 10-over-par 294 on Sunday. Junior
Megan Gormley led the team effort with a 1-under 70 on the day.
ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Gormley got off to a hot start as the junior opened with a pair of birdies. She closed the front nine at 1-over (36) but birdies on 13, 15 and 17 put her at 2-under (34) on the back nine as she closed the day with a 1-under 70 in the first round, enough to tie for sixth place.
- Senior Lauren May started the day on hole 3 and following minor setbacks on the front nine, May birdied on back-to-back holes (15, 16) to close the day on a 3-over 74, good enough to tie for 34th.
- Freshman Angela Lee opened play on hole 1 and finished the front nine at 3-over (38) before settling down on the back nine with a 1-over (37) to turn in a 4-over 75 on the day, tied for 56th.
- Gabriella Gilrowski opened play with a birdie on the second hole, the first of a trio of birdies on the day for the junior. She turned in a 4-over 75 to sit in a tie for 56th.
- Elena Zheng carded a 8-over 79 in the first round with a birdie on hole 1 to sit in a tie for 89th.
