WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to open the Stony Brook Invitational on Friday afternoon in Stony Brook, New York. The Hoyas fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-14) to Maryland in the opener before falling 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-17) to former BIG EAST foe South Florida later in the day.
Against Maryland
- Mary Grace Goyena led the Hoyas with a match-best 12 kills while hitting at a .292 clip from the outside. She added five digs as well.
- Peyton Wilhite chipped in seven kills, Ruth Kayongo had 13 and Makayla Serrett posted a pair.
- Lilly Costigan paced the offense with 25 assists.
- Defensively, Karis Park and Ellie Watkins both led the Hoyas with seven digs apiece.
- For the Terrapins, Laila Ivey had 11 kills while Laila Ricks added 10.
- On the defensive end, Milan Gomillion collected nine digs for UMD while Anastasia Russ had five blocks.
Against South Florida
- The Hoyas were led once again by Goyena with 10 kills and seven digs.
- Serrett added five kills, Wilhite had four and Kayongo chipped in three. Both Chanelle Smith and Emma Plutnicki had a pair of kills as well.
- Plutnicki earned the start at setter, adding 21 assists, three digs and a pair of blocks in the process.
- Defensively, Park anchored the GU back row with seven digs while Smith was credited with five blocks.
- For the Bulls, Amanda DeWitt and Maria Clara Andrade both had 10 kills.
- Marta Cvitkovic collected a match-best 10 digs for USF as well.
