WASHINGTON – The No.17/13 Georgetown women's soccer team beat Columbia 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are now 2-1-2 moving into the fourth week of competition and the Lions fall to 1-1-1.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"Today was a hot one for both teams and the weather certainly stopped the high tempo in the game, which is what we wanted. Both teams probed for advantages early on and while we were never comfortable on the scoreboard we were always in control with the exception of a few counter attacks by them.
It looked like we were going into the break scoreless but with her first touch of the ball, in her first game in nearly a year we had to thank
Boo Jackson for bravely getting on the end of a cross for the lead. It certainly gave the team a lift and it was great to see Boo back on the field after some tough injuries.
The second half was more of the same until
Maja Lardner made a sheer hustle play to grab us a second goal and help us breathe easier. Credit to Columbia, they pushed us hard and will be a tough team to beat in their conference. Thankfully, we now get a bit of a break until we face William & Mary next Sunday."
