Hoyas Earn First Win of Season at Dig the District Invitational

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team split a pair of matches to open the Dig the District Invitational on Friday, including picking up the team's first win of the 2022 season. The Hoyas fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-15) to Rider in the opener before defeating Binghamton 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 28-30, 25-23, 15-13) in the nightcap.

"Tonight was an all-around great win," Head Coach David Heller said. "Mary Grace went off for a career high kills and really willed her team across the finish line. There were some really great contributions across the board. Our middles did a really nice job of slowing down Binghamton. Our floor defense made some great adjustments after the first set and ended with 80 digs. Ruth and Brennan helped us out on the offensive side while our serving put us in some really good positions to score points and our block did its job tonight. Karis had another phenomenal night in the backcourt leading our defense with 24 digs. It was great to have Jess back out on the floor and add some leadership to the court. The team is starting to gel and trust each other more. They didn't buckle when put under pressure in the fifth set. I'm really proud of this group."
