Smith Finishes Second, Hoyas Tie for Third at UNCG Collegiate

WASHINGTON – Following two days of play at the par-72, 6,020-yard course at Granderson Resort, the Georgetown University women's golf team tied for third at the UNCG Collegiate. The Hoyas took on a field of 19 teams and secured third with a 17-over 881 (296-300-285), one of just four squads able to shoot a team round under par.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second-straight tournament, freshman Morgan Smith was the top finisher for the Hoyas, earning the spot alongside a pair of teammates three weeks ago at Princeton. Smith totaled a three-round score of 7-under 209 (71-71-67). The freshman recorded a flawless third round with five birdies and 13 pars. Over 54 holes, the Westford, Massachusetts native tallied 16 birdies and 32 pars.
  • Playing as an individual, Georgia Ruffolo finished third at 3-under 213 (71-75-67) over 54 holes. She managed six birdies and 11 pars in the final round and totaled 15 birdies over the three rounds of play.
  • Angela Lee tied for 24th at 7-over 223 (72-75-76). The sophomore tallied an eagle in the first round and managed six birdies over 54 holes to go along with 34 pars.
  • Vilda Westh Blanc carded an 8-over 224 (78-75-71) and managed a 1-under 71 in the final round, fueled by four birdies over the final 18 holes. The freshman recorded nine birdies over the three-round tournament.
  • Megan Gormley carded a 10-over 226 (76-79-71) over 54 holes with five birdies in the final round. Gormley seemed to find her stride late as she closed the three-round tourney with four birdies over five holes for a total of eight birdies in the entire tournament.
  • Claire Chen, competing as an individual, tied for 36th place at 11-over 227 (73-79-75). She managed six birdies and 32 pars over 54 holes.
  • Jiaying Lai carded a 21-over 237 (77-80-80) over the three rounds to tie for 76th. The freshman tallied a pair of birdies, both in the final round.

OF NOTE
  • Morgan Smith's and Georgia Ruffolo's 5-under 67s in the third round both tie the program best shared by Christina Parsells (2018 Princeton Invitational - 1st Round / 2016 Ron Moore Intercollegiate - 3rrd Round) and Jacquelyn Eleey (2017 Princeton Invitational - 2nd Round).
