Georgetown Football Heads to Penn

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team (3-2) will head to Philadelphia to take on Penn (2-1) on Saturday, October 7. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. on Franklin Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are currently second in the Patriot League standings after an upset victory, 28-24, over the then-No. 15 Fordham Rams. This was GU's first win over a ranked opponent since joining the Patriot League in 2001. 
  • The GU offense outperformed the Rams with 437 total yards and held possession for 39:27. Four separate Hoyas recorded touchdowns for the Blue & Gray including Naieem Kearney, Isaiah Grimes, Joshua Stakely and Brock Biestek
  • Grimes was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Rams. He made eight catches for 69 yards as well as a 13-yard touchdown catch at the 8:04 mark of the first quarter to give GU a 6-0 lead. The first-year tight end also caught a two-point conversion pass after the Hoyas' second touchdown.
  • The Hoyas run game is ranked 17th in the nation with 204 yards per game and is led by Stakely (80.4 ypg) and Kearney (78.4 ypg) who are 35th and 38th in the FCS. 
  • Against the Rams, Kearney ran 13 times for 114 yards including a career-long 70-yard touchdown for the Blue & Gray's third score of the contest. 
  • Defensively, the Hoyas are ranked first in the Patriot League in scoring and passing defense. Against the Rams, the Hoyas held their ground attack to 73 rushing yards and 259 yards of total offense. 
  • Freshman Zeraun Daniel leads the defense with 24 total tackles (17 solo and 7 assists).
  • This season, quarterback Tyler Knoop has thrown for 808 yards and nine touchdowns. 
ABOUT THE QUAKERS
  • Penn is coming off of an overtime loss 23-20 to Dartmouth in its home opener last Saturday. 
  • Against the Big Green, Albert Jang made a 51-yard field goal to tie the game and send the contest to overtime. His field goal is tied for the third longest in program history. 
  • Aidan Sayin threw for 357 yards, which was his second consecutive game throwing 300-yards. He's the first Quaker to throw consecutive 300-yard performances since Alek Torgersen in 2014.
  • Defensively, Jack Fairman leads the Quakers with 20 tackles (11 solo, 9 assists) while Jack Iuliano leads Penn in quarterback pressures with five. 
THE MATCHUP
  • Saturday's contest will mark the eighth matchup between the Hoyas and Quakers since the first meeting in 1893. Penn leads the series 6-0-1.
  • Last season against Penn, Mason Gudger made history when he became the second player in Patriot League history to return two kickoffs for a touchdown in the same game. The running back earned Patriot League Special Teams and Rookie Player of the Week along with FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week.
