Hoyas to Host Howard on Thursday Evening

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Howard University Bison in a nonconference matchup on Thursday evening at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off a road trip to California where the Hoyas picked up two wins over Pepperdine on Friday, 59-40, and Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, 65-55.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom led the Hoyas with 20 points, as well as two rebounds, three assists and three steals in the contest against the Titans.
  • Graduate student Alex Cowan contributed 15 points and four rebounds in the contest, while classmate Graceann Bennett added 10 points and eight boards.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded the Titans 36-29 and forced 16 Cal State turnovers while recording 11 steals.
  • For her efforts across the two contests, Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. With 15 points, six rebounds and six steals at Pepperdine, in addition to her performance against the Titans, Ransom averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and a BIG EAST-best 4.5 steals for the week.
  • Ransom is 10th in the league in scoring (15.7 ppg), 11th in rebounding (6.8 rpg), eighth in assists (3.7 apg) and leads the league with an impressive 3.3 steals per game. This is her first nod to the honor roll this season and the fifth of her career.
  • The Blue & Gray is leading the league and ranked fourth in the nation in scoring defense averaging 46.7 ppg.
  • GU's 5-1 record is its best start since the 2010-11 campaign when the Hoyas started the year 7-1. That season, the squad went 24-11 with a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.
About the Bison
  • Howard is 1-7 to start the season, dropping its last six games including a loss to No. 23 Ole Miss, 67-54.
  • The Bison were picked to finish second out of eight teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, which was voted on by head coaches and sports information directors around the league. Senior guard Kaniyah Harris was named to the Preseason Second Team All MEAC, as was fifth-year senior and fellow guard Iyanna Warren.
  • Destiny Howell, star senior guard for the Bison and Preseason MEAC Player of the Year, will miss the season due to injury.
  • Tyanna Walker leads the Bison with a 12.9 ppg average, while Warren trails her with a 10.6 ppg average from the field.
