Georgetown Hosts TCU as Part of BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team welcomes the TCU Horned Frogs to the Nation's Capital on Saturday, December 2 as part of the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas have strung together four-straight home wins, most recently defeating Merrimack 69-67 on Wednesday. The Hoyas enter the contest at 5-2 while TCU is 6-0 on the season, most recently defeating Houston Christian 101-64 on Monday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter the game at 5-2 following their fourth-straight home win, a 69-67 victory over the visiting Merrimack Warriors on Wednesday.
  • For his efforts last week, Georgetown's leading scorer Jayden Epps was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday. Epps poured in a career-high 34 points in the Hoyas' 88-81 win over Jackson State after tallying a then-career-high 31 points in an 88-83 overtime win against American. It marked back-to-back 30+ point games for the Norfolk native, a feat no Hoya has achieved since Austin Freeman in 2010. It was Epps' first nod to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
  • On Wednesday, Epps tallied 11 points in the win, going 3-for-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from downtown despite leaving the game with an injury late in the first half.
  • In Wednesday's contest, Wayne Bristol Jr. led the way for the Hoyas with 14 points, shooting 3-of-5 from the field and converting 8-of-11 at the free throw line.
  • Senior Supreme Cook had his season double-double of the season, scoring 12 points to go along with as many boards and two steals.
  • Georgetown shot 36.0% (18-50) while the Warriors connected on 24-of-55 (43.6%) from the field. The Hoyasalso managed  43 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end, while the Warriors managed 28.
  • Epps leads a quintet of Hoyas in double-figure scoring averaging 18.4 ppg, ranking second the BIG EAST Conference, followed by Styles' 16.1 ppg (9th - BE), Cook (11.3 ppg), Rowan Brumbaugh (10.7 ppg) and Heath (10.1 ppg).
  • Cook is GU's leader on the boards, grabbing 8.6 rpg followed by Styles' 7.0 rpg. Cook currently ranks third in the league in rebounding while Epps' 3.3 3-pointers made per game tops the league and his 4.4 apg is a squad best and ranks sixth in the conference.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE HORNED FROGS
  • TCU, receiving votes in both the AP and the Coaches Poll, enters the game at 6-0 on the season. In previous BIG EAST-Big 12 Battles, the Horned Frogs own a 2-2 record and have won the past two games in the schedule series.
  • This will be TCU's first road contest in the 2023-24 season.
  • Jameer Nelson Jr. recorded his sixth-career double-double with 15 points and 10 assists in TCU's last contest. Emanuel Miller led the team in scoring with 19 points.
  • Five Horned Frogs have double-figure scoring averages, led by JaKobe Coles' 15.3 points per game which ranks 11th in the Big 12, followed by Miller (13.7 ppg), Micah Peavy (13.2 ppg), Nelson Jr. (12.2 ppg) and Avery Anderson III (10.3 ppg).
  • Miller is TCU's leader on the boards, pulling down 5.7 rpg while Coles grabs 5.3 rpg.
  • The Warriors are led by Head Coach Jamie Dixon in his eighth season with the Horned Frogs.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH TCU
  • TCU holds the 1-0 all-time series advantage after defeating the Hoyas, 80-73, on Dec. 18, 2021.
  • In the last outing, Georgetown made it a one-possession game (76-73) with just 21 seconds in regulation but could not pull off the comeback bid, falling 80-73 to TCU to the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. Aminu Mohammed registered his fifth double-double of the season, posting game bests of 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead a trio of Hoyas in double figures while Kaiden Rice added 14 points and Donald Carey chipped in 12. Georgetown and TCU both shot 42.4 percent (28-66) for the game but the Horned Frogs outrebounded GU 44-34.
