Hoyas Face Coppin State on Tuesday Night

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will host Coppin State on Tuesday, December 12. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena. GU enters the contest with a 5-4 record after an 80-68 setback to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter the game at 5-4 following an 80-68 setback against Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.
  • Jayden Epps led the Hoya offense with a squad-best 17 points while chipping in six assists in the contest.
  • Supreme Cook notched his third double-double of the season with 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting and he recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • Rowan Brumbaugh was active on the defensive end for GU with a squad-best four steals against Syracuse.
  • A quartet of Hoyas are currently averaging double figures as Epps (18.9 ppg), Dontrez Styles (15.3 ppg), Cook (11.4 ppg) and Ismael Massoud (10.7) lead the Hoya offense. Epps' 18.9 ppg tops the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Wayne Bristol Jr. and Brumbaugh have been fantastic on the defensive end for GU as the duo has accounted for 24 of the teams 52 steals on the season. Bristol has tallied 11 steals while Brumbaugh has a GU-best 13 on the season.
  • Cook is GU's leader on the boards, grabbing 8.3 rpg, while Massoud pulls down 7.3 rpg and Styles averages 6.7 rpg. Cook is second in the league in rebounding.
  • Epps paces the offense with 4.7 apg.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • Coppin State enters the contest at 1-10, dropping its last three contests at Navy (75-52), against Wagner (62-59) and at George Washington (76-45).
  • The Eagles only win this season was a 89-70 victory over UMBC on November 30. 
  • Justin Winston scored a team-best 15 points with seven field goals made and four rebounds against George Washington. In addition to Winton's team-leading effort, Greg Spurlock had 11 points while Ryan Archey contributed a career-high 10 points.
  • Winston leads Coppin State in scoring and on the glass  with 13.4 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game, respectively.
  • Toto Fagbenle has 11 blocks on the season to lead the Eagles.
  • The Eagles are led by Head Coach Larry Stewart, in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH COPPIN STATE
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the fifth time the two programs have met dating back to 2016 with GU leading the series 4-0.
  • Georgetown won the 2022 meeting 99-89 in overtime as all five Hoya starters recorded double figures in the season opener.
