Hoyas Travel to Notre Dame for Saturday Matchup

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hits the road for a three-game road swing, starting with a trip to South Bend, Indiana to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday for its final nonconference game of the season. The Hoyas enter the road trip at 6-4 following a 71-54 win on Tuesday night over Coppin State.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter the game at 6-4 following a 71-54 win over the visiting Coppin State Eagles on Tuesday evening.
  • Dontrez Styles led all scorers and a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 19 points on seven made field goals to go along with five rebounds, a squad-best four assists and a pair of steals. Rowan Brumbaugh added 14 points, a squad-best four assists and game-best five steals. Drew Fielder chipped in 11 off the bench while Supreme Cook grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds.
  • A quartet of Hoyas are currently averaging double figures as Jayden Epps, who missed the game against Coppin State to illness, leads the team with 18.9 ppg. Dontrez Styles (15.7 ppg), Cook (11.2 ppg) and Ismael Massoud (10.3) round out those in double figures. Epps' 18.9 ppg tops the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Wayne Bristol Jr. and Brumbaugh have been solid on the defensive end for GU as the duo has accounted for 30 of the teams 65 steals on the season. Bristol has tallied 12 steals while Brumbaugh has a GU-best 18 on the season.
  • Cook is GU's leader on the boards, grabbing 8.6 rpg, while Styles averages 6.5 rpg and Massoud pulls down 6.0. Cook is second in the league in rebounding.
  • Epps paces the offense with 4.7 apg.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE FIGHTING IRISH
  • Notre Dame enters the game at 4-5 following a loss at then-No. 8/7 Marquette last Saturday. Markus Burton was the lone player in double figures for the Irish with 20 points while Kebba Nije grabbed a squad-best six boards.
  • Burton leads the Irish as the lone one in double figures, averaging 15.7 ppg.
  • Tae Davis holds a narrow margin on the glass, pulling down 5.8 rpg while Julian Roper II and J.R. Konieczny grab 5.2 and 5.1 rpg, respectively.
  • Burton dishes out a squad-best 3.7 apg.
  • The Fighting Irish are led by Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry, in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH NOTRE DAME
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 30th time the two programs have met dating back to the 1947-48 season with GU leading the series 16-13.
  • The last time the two squads met was when Notre Dame was still in the BIG EAST Conference during the 2012-13 season.
  • In the contest in 2013, Otto Porter Jr. and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera managed 19 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Hoyas to a 63-47 win over the 23rd-ranked Irish in South Bend. The Hoyas used an 18-0 second-half run to seal the victory.
