Hoyas Host Seton Hall in BIG EAST Opener on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Seton Hall University Pirates in both squads' BIG EAST Conference opener on Wednesday at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 11 a.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is sitting at 9-1 and coming off of a 60-44 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday.
  • It was a close game, but the Hoyas ended the contest on a 15-0 run to seal the victory.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom led the way for the Hoyas with 22 points to go along with five rebounds, while graduate student Graceann Bennett added 11 points and four boards in the contest.
  • Junior Brianna Scott pulled down a squad-best eight rebounds and also had six blocks and eight points, while graduate student Mya Bembry had five assists in the win.
  • The Hoyas shot 44.4% (20-45) from the field, and the Blue & Gray allowed just 25.9% (15-58) shooting by the Deacs.
  • GU outrebounded WFU 35-33, and Georgetown forced 14 Demon Deacon turnovers on seven steals.
  • For her efforts in the Wake Forest win, Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. It marked the third weekly award of the season and the seventh of her career.
  • Ransom leads the team in almost all categories. She is ninth in the league in scoring (16.2 ppg), 13th in rebounding (6.6 rpg), 13th in assists (3.2 apg) and leads the league with an impressive 3.0 steals per game.
  • Bennett is second on the team with 9.3 ppg as well as 7.0 rpg, while Scott rounds out the top three with 8.8 ppf along with 6.7 rpg.
  • GU's 9-1 record is the best start for the Hoyas since the BIG EAST Conference began sponsoring women's basketball. The best start in program history dates back to a 16-1 record to open the 1979-80 campaign.
  • The last time Georgetown won seven-consecutive games was the 2016-17 season.
  • The Hoyas are leading the league and ranked second in the nation in scoring defense averaging 46.5 ppg.
About the Pirates
  • Seton Hall is 8-3 on the season, and coming off of a big 84-54 victory over then-No. 23 UNLV on Saturday.
  • For her efforts against UNLV, graduate student Azana Baines was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
  • The graduate student scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
  • Baines leads the team in scoring averaging 15.7 ppg, while Micah Gray is second with 15.3 ppg to her credit.
  • SHU has won four in a row with its last loss coming in double overtime at then-No. 25 Princeton, 75-71.
