Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls at No. 6/6 Marquette

MILWAUKEE – The Georgetown University men's basketball team could not contain a hot-shooting sixth-ranked Marquette squad, falling 81-51 to the Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum on Friday night. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 7-6 on the season and 0-2 in BIG EAST play while Marquette improves to 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

ON THE RECORD
"I thought Marquette played really well, coming off a loss against a very talented Providence team. Going on the road in the BIG EAST - if you're going to contend in this league, you have to take care of home court. I thought they played well, I thought they played connected, I thought they played their style, which we weren't disruptive on. I'm very disappointed with how my team performed. Whether we've been on the road five, six, 20 days - I didn't feel the fight of my group, and that's on me. I didn't feel the grit of our group, that's on me … We didn't have fight, we didn't have pop, we didn't have resilience and that's not something that I'm comfortable with."
 - Head Coach Ed Cooley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jayden Epps led a pair of Hoyas in double figures with 14 points on five made field goals, while dishing out a squad-best three assists.
  • Dontrez Styles chipped in 12 of his own on five made buckets, including a pair of 3-pointers.
  • Supreme Cook pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds in the contest.
  • Rowan Brumbaugh shared the assist duties with Epps, also delivering a trio of assists.
  • The Hoyas shot 32.8% (20-61) for the game, connecting on just five 3-pointers in the contest. Marquette connected on 29-of-65 (44.6%) from the field and drained 10 3-pointers in the contest.
  • Georgetown narrowly held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding the home team, 40-39.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Styles got the Hoyas on the board quickly knocking down a 3-pointer before Epps followed up with a bucket of his own as the Blue & Gray jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
  • Marquette answered back with a layup before a Styles jumper put the Hoyas up 7-2 (18:11) early in the frame.
  • MU knotted the game at seven and both teams started trading buckets as Georgetown continued to pull ahead each time before the Golden Eagles found an answer on the other end. Marquette took its first lead of the game at 15-13 (10:50) en route to a 20-2 run that would see MU pull ahead 30-15 and go into the break with the 41-24 advantage.
  • The second half was a continuation of the end of the first half, with the Hoyas struggling to find offense. Epps strung together four-straight points behind a layup and a pair of free throws but it didn't put much of a dent in the MU lead.
  • Marquette went on for the 81-51 victory.
