Hoyas Set to Host No. 10/10 Marquette Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the No. 10/10 Marquette University Golden Eagles on Saturday, February 11 at Capital One Arena with tipoff slated for noon. The Hoyas are coming off a 74-62 loss to No. 20/17 Providence on Wednesday evening while the Golden Eagles are coming off an 87-72 loss at No. 21/21 UConn on Tuesday evening.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Saturday's game with a 6-19 record and a 1-13 mark in BIG EAST play after falling to No. 20/17 Providence at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Wednesday evening.
  • Bradley Ezewiro led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with a career-high 19 points on efficient 8-of-9 shooting. Ezewiro chipped in three rebounds and three blocks in his best performance of the season.
  • Primo Spears and Brandon Murray also reached double figures with Spears chipping in 18 points and Murray adding 16. Murray tallied a squad-best seven rebounds and four assists while Spears pulled down a pair of rebounds and dished out seven assists.
  • Qudus Wahab scored his 1,000th career point while also grabbing three rebounds and adding one block.
  • Spears' 16.2 ppg leads a trio of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Murray (14.9 ppg) and Jay Heath (12.2 ppg).
  • On the glass, Wahab leads the team with 7.1 rpg while Akok Akok chips in 6.7 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.4 apg, which is good for second in the BIG EAST Conference and his 16.2 ppg ranks fourth in the league. Akok's team-leading 1.9 bpg is tied for third in the league.
 
ABOUT THE No. 10/10 GOLDEN EAGLES
  • Marquette (19-6, 11-3 BE), ranked No. 10 in both the AP poll as well as the USA Today Coaches Poll, is coming off an 87-72 loss at No. 21/21 UConn on Tuesday evening.
  • Tyler Kolek, the BIG EAST assist leader, led the way for Marquette with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting (50%). Kolek added four assists, one rebound and two steals in the loss.
  • Stevie Mitchell, Ben Gold and Sean Jones all reached double figures with 12, 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Five Golden Eagles are averaging double figures this season with Kam Jones leading the way with 15.3 ppg, followed by Olivier-Maxence Prosper (13.0) and Kolek (11.5) and Oso Ighodaro each chipping in 11.5 ppg.
  • Ighodaro's 5.8 rpg is a squad best while Kolek leads the BIG EAST and is second in the country with 7.9 apg. 
  • Head Coach Shaka Smart is in his second season at the helm of the Golden Eagles.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 35th all-time meeting between the two programs dating back to 1941 with the Hoyas trailing in the series 20-14.
  • In their last contest earlier this season, the Hoyas fell 95-73 in Milwaukee. Four Hoyas reached double figures in the last meeting with Spears leading the way with 18 points on seven made field goals. Wayne Bristol Jr., Jordan Riley and Akok Akok all reached double figures with 16, 16 and 10 points, respectively.
  • This will be the third time this season the Blue & Gray has faced a team ranked among the top 10 in the AP poll.
