Women’s Lacrosse Defeats American in Commanding 18-5 Victory

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated the American Eagles (0-1) 18-5 in the season opener.

How It Happened
  • The Eagles opened the scoring 55 seconds into the first quarter. The Hoyas answered with a 6-0 scoring run by way of four different Hoyas finding the back of the net. Emma Gebhardt recorded a hat trick in the quarter. American managed to find the back of the net with four minutes remaining in the first before the Hoyas added three more goals to set the score at 9-2.
  • Both teams were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the second quarter. The Eagles found the back of the net at the 10:25 mark. Erin Bakes and Kylie Hazen each landed a goal in response for the Hoyas to end the first half 11-3.
  • American managed an early goal at the 14:04 mark to start the second half. The Hoyas continued their offensive momentum by scoring four more goals including two from Goldsmith. 
  • The Blue & Gray held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth. Freshmen Gracie Driggs and Molly Battaglia recorded their first goals as a Hoya to cap off the score at 18-5. 
Of Note
  • Bakes recorded four goals on the day while Gebhardt and Hazen each tallied three and Goldsmith added two. 
  • Hazen also tallied four assists to total seven points. The junior also led the Hoyas with seven draw controls followed by Emma Driggs with four.
  • GU outshot American 36-20 and led 16-11 in draw controls.
