WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's women's golf team currently sits in 15th place following the first round of play at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge that welcomed a field of 16 teams, including 10 ranked among the top 25 in the country, to Palos Verdes Estates, California. Ohio State University is the host of the three-day tournament held at the Palos Verdes Golf Club on a par-71, 6,017-yard course that saw the Hoyas post a team score of 19-over par 303.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kaitlyn Lees carded a 3-over 74 (T38th) on the course. Starting on the back nine, Lees opened with a birdie but got tripped up on holes 13 and 14 to close the back nine at 2-over before recording a 1-over par on the front nine to close the day.
- Megan Gormley tallied a trio of birdies on the day as the junior also opened on the back nine with a birdie on hole 10. She finished the back nine with an even score despite a pair of birdies. Struggling on the front nine, she was able to close the day with four-consecutive holes of even par or better and carded a 4-over 75 (T44th).
- Lauren May is currently tied for 63rd (6-over 77) after one round of play, recording a trio of birdies on the day. She was the third Hoya to open play with a birdie on hole 10. She tallied two more in the first round but also faced setbacks on the front nine.
- Gabriella Gilrowski tallied a pair of birdies, both on the back nine, and currently sits in a tie for 63rd place with a 6-over 77.
- Similar to her teammates, Angela Lee fared better on the back nine, tallying a pair of birdies on holes 12 and 17. The freshman finished at 8-over 79.
