Hoyas Fall 9-7 in Home Opener to No. 11/10 Penn

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse lost its first home opener since 2017 with a 9-7 setback against No. 11/10 Penn on Saturday afternoon. The No. 8/12 Hoyas fall to 0-2 on the season while the Quakers improve to 1-0.

Hoya Highlights How it Happened
  • Penn scored on the opening possession before a defensive battle ensued for nearly 10 minutes until the Quakers added another goal at 5:29. Georgetown got on the board first with a Dordevic man-up goal at 2:25, but Penn responded 23 seconds later to make it 3-1 after the first quarter.
  • In the second, the Hoyas evened things up at 3-3 with goals from Minicus and Dordevic, but Penn closed out the half on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead going into the break.
  • The third quarter proved to be a low scoring affair with both teams matching a single goal, including Crogan's at the 6:16 mark to end a nearly 20-minute scoring drought for the Blue & Gray.
  • All three of Minicus' assists came in the final frame as the Hoyas made a valiant comeback attempt, pulling within a goal down 8-7 with 50 seconds remaining. Penn would then take advantage of a late GU penalty to put the game away with a man-up goal with 23 ticks left of the clock.
Penn Notes
  • Cam Rubin led the Quakers with four goals while no other Penn player scored more than one.
  • Dylan Gergar had a goal and two assists while Sam Handley added a goal and an assist.
  • Defensively, Ethan Till was credited with three caused turnovers.
  • In goal, Emmett Carroll earned win behind an 18-save performance.
Hoya Notes
  • Bundy moves into sole possession of 14th place all-time in career scoring at Georgetown, passing Neal Goldman ('04) and Hoya Hall of Famer Dan Martin ('97) with 137 points.
