Hoyas Host No. 20/18 Providence in Home Finale on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will host the No. 20/18 Providence College Friars on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas are coming off a close 79-70 loss to the St. John's University Red Storm on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena, while Providence is coming off an 87-69 loss to No. 18/23 UConn at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut on Wednesday as well.The Hoyas will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Sunday's game with a 7-22 record and a 2-16 mark in BIG EAST play after falling to St. John's on Wednesday night at home.
  • Brandon Murray led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a team-best three steals.
  • Jay Heath added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a 4-of-6 performance from beyond the arc while adding a squad-best seven assists. Primo Spears added 11 points to round out those in double figures.
  • Qudus Wahab led the Hoyas on the glass with a game-best 12 rebounds while chipping in six points with a 4-for-6 performance from the charity stripe.
  • Spears' 15.4 ppg leads a trio of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Murray (14.6 ppg), and Heath (12.7 ppg).
  • On the glass, Wahab leads the team with 7.3 rpg while Akok Akok chips in 6.3 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.3 apg, which ranks second in the BIG EAST. Akok's team-leading 2.0 bpg is also good for second in the league.
 
ABOUT THE FRIARS
  • No. 20 Providence (20-8, 12-5 BE) is coming off a tough 87-69 loss to No. 18 UConn in Connecticut on Wednesday.
  • Three players finished in double figures for the Friars in Bryce Hopkins (16), Jared Bynum (14), and Noah Locke (11). Hopkins led the way on the glass with five boards, while Bynum recorded three steals and Devin Carter posted two blocks.
  • Hopkins is the team's leading scorer with 16.8 ppg, tied for first in the BIG EAST. Three other Friars average double-figure scoring with Carter (13.2), Ed Croswell (12.9), and Locke (11.1) contributing on the offensive end.
  • Hopkins also leads the way on the glass with 8.9 rpg, good for second in the conference, while Bynum paces the offense with 4.4 apg.
  • Hopkins was named BIG EAST Player of the Week last Monday after averaging 19.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg the past week.
  • Head Coach Ed Cooley is in his twelfth season at the helm of the Friars. In 2022, he was named the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year and the BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Sunday's matchup will be the 81st all-time meeting between the two programs dating back to 1956 with the Hoyas leading the series 47-33.
  • In their last contest earlier this month, the Hoyas fell 74-62 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. Bradley Ezewiro posted a career-high 19 points on eight made field goals and a perfect 3-for-3 effort from the free throw line. Primo Spears and Brandon Murray tallied 18 and 16 points, respectively, to round out those in double figures.
