Women’s Lacrosse Gets Road Win Over Harvard

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-2) picked up a road win 10-9 in a tight battle against Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Olivia Rubin led the Hoyas to victory with a squad best five goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

On The Record
"We played hard and were able to overcome some mistakes," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "The goalies did an outstanding job and gave us an opportunity to win the game."

How It Happened
  • Harvard opened the scoring with a free position goal at the 12:54 mark. A minute later the Hoyas and the Crimson exchanged a pair of goals. Rubin went on a two-goal scoring run to give GU its first lead of the game 3-2. After a tying goal by Harvard, Rubin landed a man-up free position goal to give the Hoyas a  4-3 lead at the end of the first. 
  • After a scoreless opening six minutes of the second period, Rubin added her fourth goal of the afternoon off of a free position shot. Rileigh Meyer and Lily Tardif each recorded free position goals to extend GU's lead 7-4. The Crimson closed out the half with two goals to make it a one-goal game in favor of the Hoyas (7-6). 
  • In the third, the Crimson closed the gap, scoring with seven seconds remaining in the third for a score of 8-8.
  • Rubin kicked off the fourth period scoring her fifth goal of the contest but Harvard responded with a free position goal. Erin Bakes found the back of the net  for the first time of the afternoon at the 1:58 mark to secure the one goal win for the Hoyas. 
Of Note
  • Rubin led the offense with five goals. Meyer picked up two goals while Bakes, Tatum Geist and Tardif each added one. 
  • Kylie Hazen was a key contributor to the Hoya offense with a team best three assists and five draw controls.
  • The goalie tandem of Emily Gaven (7) and Leah Warehime (9) made 16 combined saves for a save percentage of .640. 
  • The Hoyas went 18-18 in clears and 6-8 in free position shots.
