Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Johns Hopkins

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-3) fell at home to No 19 Johns Hopkins (2-2) 13-4 on Wednesday night.

On The Record
"We played defense too much today," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "We needed to execute better on clears, draws and on offense."

How It Happened
  • Johns Hopkins dominated the first quarter, scoring four goals and holding the Hoyas to two shots.
  • The Blue Jays continued their offensive pressure in the second, landing a goal at the 12:50 mark. Erin Bakes found the back of the net off of a pass from Katie Goldsmith that sparked a three goal run for the Hoyas. GU narrowed its deficit to two for a score of 5-3 at halftime.
  • The Hoyas and the Blue Jays had a strong defensive start to the third but Maeve Baker found the back of the net for her third goal of the night to end Johns Hopkins 18 minutes scoring drought. Emma Gebhardt netted her second goal of the night off of a sneaky behind the net play. The Blue Jays pushed back and extended its lead to 8-4 with two goals to close out the third quarter.
  • The Blue Jays picked up right where they left off and went on a five goal scoring run to win the contest 13-4.
Of Note
  • Gebhardt led the offense with two goals off of two shots. Bakes and Maley Starr each contributed one.
  • Nicole Massimino had a team best of six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • At the draw, Starr added three draw controls while Kylie Hazen and Lily Athanas each tailed two.
