WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team split today's doubleheader with Hartford. GU won the first game 6-3 and dropped the second 5-3 in 12 innings. Both teams will face off once again tomorrow to finish the three-game series. Gametime has been moved up an hour to 12 p.m.
ON THE RECORD
"The story today was
Cody Jensen giving us seven innings in game one and helping our bullpen out. He was really good today moving through his pitches and he didn't walk many guys so really proud of him. Offensively, we scored those five early runs and that proved to be enough today. In that inning, we were able to take advantage of a few things and it worked in our favor.
Jake Hyde,
Michael Eze,
Travis Ilitch and
Andrew Bergeron were all great and it was great to see Ilitch and Bergeron get some more time. Overall, proud of how we came out and played better defensively overall and now we have to get ready for game two." - Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on game one
"Great job by Hartford coming in and competing. Their guy that came in and pitched the last five innings was outstanding and their pitching staff kept us off balance all day long. We couldn't get much going offensively and left a lot of guys on base.
Tyler Mead had a big performance who went almost five innings, and he was outstanding and gave us a chance there throughout the game. Proud of our guys,
Ubaldo Lopez had a great day and gave us a chance with his home run. Unfortunately, we came up a little bit short today but tomorrow we have a chance to win a series." - Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on game two
