Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 7 Loyola Maryland

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (3-4) fell 15-10 to No. 7 Loyola Maryland on Wednesday at the Ridley Athletic Complex.

On The Record
"Loyola did a really good job with draw controls," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "I thought they dominated most of the possession but I'm honestly really proud of the effort we put out there today. I thought we competed really hard. I think for the first time this season we played at a level that we should be really proud of."

How It Happened
  • The Hoyas jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal from Kylie Hazen in the opening minute of the first quarter. The Greyhounds quickly responded with two goals of their own but Tessa Brooks found the back of the net for the first time this season at the 5:20 mark to tie the contest 2-2. Loyola's Chase Boyle would net a goal a minute later. The Hoyas won the following draw that aided in a goal from Tatum Geist off an assist from Hazen. The Greyhounds would end the quarter with two goals in the closing minute for a  5-3 lead.
  • Hazen got the scoring started again in the second quarter after landing a free position goal at the 12:53 mark. The Greyhounds went on a three goal scoring run that was interrupted by a driving goal from Rileigh Meyer. The Greyhounds would pick up where they left off, scoring two more goals within a minute. At the 1:25 mark Geist would find Hazen off of a cross crease pass to earn the Hoyas the final goal of the half. The Greyhounds held the lead 10-6 at halftime.
  • Loyola kicked off the third quarter with a goal from Boyle at the 13:27 mark. Two minutes later, Meyer found the back off the net off of a free position shot. The Hoyas and Greyhounds put up strong defensive efforts going scoreless over the next 10 and a half minutes. Hazen earned a free position goal at the 1:09 mark but Loyola would end the quarter with a woman-up goal at 0:24.
  • Geist worked around the Greyhound defense and found the back of the net at the 12:20 mark of the fourth quarter. Loyal continued on a three goal scoring run led by Jillian Wilson with two goals. Maley Starr capped off  the scoring with a free position goal with 4:34 remaining in the contest. The Greyhound claimed the 15-10 victory over the Hoyas.
