Georgetown Falls to Villanova

PHILADELPHIA – The Georgetown University baseball team fell to the Villanova Wildcats 15-4 on Saturday. Georgetown slides to 15-12 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Villanova improves to 5-20 and 1-1 in conference play.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS  
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first frame was scoreless for both sides as Williams struck out two of the first three batters he faced. In the second, Eze ripped a single to left and advanced to second on an error. D'Acunto stepped up to the plate and smacked a double to left bringing Eze home for the Hoyas' first tally of the day. 
  • Villanova evened the score in the third inning on an RBI single to left. 
  • In the fourth, Lopez ripped a double to center and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Hyde stepped up and smacked an RBI single up the middle and the Hoyas took back the lead at 2-1. 
  • The Hoyas were unable to add any runs in the fifth. Villanova put up five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. 
  • The sixth frame was scoreless for both sides. In the seventh, Bowker hit a single to left. Kretzschmar stepped up to the plate and laced a double to center field bringing Bowker home. The Nova lead was cut to three heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Wildcats were able to add one run in the seventh making their advantage 7-3. 
  • GU was unable to generate much offense in the eighth, recording no hits. Villanova would add eight in the eighth giving them the 15-3 advantage.
  • The Hoyas were unable to mount a comeback dropping game two 15-4. 
 
OF NOTE 
  • Williams tallied six strikeouts in four innings.
  • Frye recorded three strikeouts in two innings of work. 
  • Seven Hoyas recorded a hit. 
 
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Villanova in game three of the three-game series. First pitch is slated for noon at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
