WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team won its BIG EAST opener with a decisive 13-6 victory over visiting No. 13/16 Denver on Saturday afternoon. The No. 15 Hoyas improve to 5-3 on the year while the Pioneers even their record to 4-4.
Hoya Highlights
- Graham Bundy Jr. led Georgetown with four goals while Brian Minicus and Nicky Solomon both had two goals and an assist.
- Jacob Kelly added a goal and two assists while Tucker Dordevic, Declan McDermott, James Reilly and Jordan Wray each had a goal and an assist. Patrick Crogan tallied a lone assist as well.
- Reilly put together a stellar performance, taking all but one faceoff and winning 15 of 22 (.681) on the day to go with nine ground balls.
- Defensively, the Hoyas were credited with 10 caused turnovers with five coming from Will Bowen and two each from Dordevic and Wallace Halpert.
- Georgetown's defense held the Pioneers scoreless for spans of 22:23, 10:49 and 15:12 in the game. Denver did not score in the fourth quarter and managed just two shots in the frame.
- The Blue & Gray dominated possession with 40 ground balls compared to Denver's 18 and also outshot their guests 46 to 23 on the day.
- In goal, Michael Scharfenberger earned the win to improve to 5-0 on the season and 8-0 in his career on the Hilltop. He collected eight saves to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
How it Happened
- Denver jumped on the board first with back-to-back goals in the first four minutes of the opening quarter. The Hoyas responded with three goals in the final three minutes of the frame, including two man-up goals on an unreleasable penalty, to take a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.
- Four more Hoya goals in the second gave the home team a 7-2 lead before the Pioneers snapped their 22:23 scoreless drought at the 3:42 mark. Denver added a late goal in the waning seconds of the half to salvage a 7-4 deficit going into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, the Hoyas scored on the opening possession 37 seconds in to make it 8-4 before a nearly 10-minute scoreless span ended with another GU goal with just over five minutes to play. Both squads managed another two goals in the third to make it 11-6 heading into the final period.
- In the fourth, Georgetown dominated possession by winning every faceoff and pulling in 12 ground balls to Denver's one. The Hoyas killed nearly five minutes off the clock in one possession while holding the Pioneers to just two shots in the frame.
Denver Notes
- No Denver player scored more than one goal and no player had more than two points on the day. Michael Lampert and Mic Kelly both had a goal and an assist for the Pioneers.
- Defensively, Adam Hangland was credited with two caused turnovers and added two ground balls.
- In goal, Malcolm Kleban and Jack Thompson combined for 12 saves in the loss.

- Reilly's 15 faceoff wins give him 800 for his career, making him just the 13th NCAA Division I player to reach the milestone.
- Bundy moves into ninth place all-time in career goals (106) on the Hilltop, passing Michael Mauboussin ('86).
- Bowen moves into a tie for third all-time in career caused turnovers in just his 25th game as a Hoya, matching Alex Mazzone ('22) with 52.
