WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (6-9, 1-3 BE) fell 13-9 to No. 25 UConn (9-5, 2-2 BE) at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

"UConn came out with a lot of energy in the opening 10 minutes which really dictated the rest of the game," said Head Coach
Ricky Fried. "We just weren't able to recover from their four early goals. I thought our defense played really strong and we fought until the very end."
How It Happened
- The Huskies started the first quarter going on a four-goal scoring run. Erin Bakes found the back of the net to get the Hoyas on the board at the 2:01 mark. Kylie Hazen capped off the quarter with a second goal for the Hoyas with 29 seconds remaining.
- UConn jumped out to a 6-2 lead with two goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter. The Hoyas responded three minutes later when Bakes capitalized on GU's man-up opportunity. The Huskies followed up with a goal a minute later but Hazen would respond with her second goal of the contest. The Huskies landed the final goal of the half to lead the Hoyas 8-4.
- Bakes kicked off the third quarter with two goals for GU. Rileigh Meyer battled through the UConn defense and landed a goal at the 6:43 mark to bring the Hoyas within two (9-7). The Blue & Gray held the Huskies scoreless through 12 minutes of the third before UConn landed a goal at the 2:02 mark.
- The Huskies would find the back of the net twice in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter before Maley Starr earned a free-position goal at the 9:45 mark. Reyes Davis capped off the scoring for UConn with a goal at 5:39 in the fourth. Emma Gebhardt landed one last goal for the Hoyas with 3:02 remaining in the contest but the Huskies would earn the 13-9 victory.
Of Note
- The Hoyas outshot the Huskies 42-28 while also tallying more draw controls (16-10) and ground balls (16-14).
- Bakes led the Blue & Gray with four goals to record a new season high as a Hoya with 38. Hazen followed with two goals of her own while Starr, Gebhardt, and Meyer each tallied one.
- Hazen led the squad with four ground balls as well as three draw controls.
- In net, Leah Warehime totaled nine saves in 33:55 of action to record a .600 save percentage.
