How it Happened
- A closely contested first quarter saw goals traded back-and-forth early before Dordevic completed a first period hat trick to give the Blue & Gray a 3-1 lead. Villanova would score two man-up goals in the frame, including the second at the 4:16 mark to salvage a 3-2 GU lead after the first 15 minutes of action.
- The scoreboard was silent for the first five minutes of the second quarter until Bundy's man-up goal at the 9:51 mark pushed the Hoya lead to 4-2. Villanova responded to pull within one, but another Bundy goal with 2:49 remaining in the half gave Georgetown a 5-3 lead going into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, both squads pushed the pace and combined for seven goals in the frame. Villanova seemed to have an answer every time the Hoyas scored, but Bundy completed his hat trick with 11 seconds remaining in the frame to give the Blue & Gray a three-goal cushion at 9-6. Hincks kept the momentum going with a stellar doorstop save after the ensuing faceoff to lift the Hoyas into the final 15 minutes of action.
- In the fourth, the Hoyas posted three goals from Solomon, Carroll and Dordevic to lead 12-6 and clamped down defensively on their guests. Villanova didn't score for nearly 12 minutes in the stanza before a pair of desperation goals in the final three minutes closed out the 12-8 win for Georgetown.
