Georgetown Splits Doubleheader With St. John's

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team split a doubleheader with St. John's dropping game one 9-4 and winning game two 6-2. The Hoyas were fueled by Jake Bloss' seven scoreless innings on the mound in game two and his season-high 12 strikeouts as he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.

ON THE RECORD
"Today was a long day of baseball. In game one, St. John's did an outstanding job of keeping us off balance at the plate. We gave them too many free bases in the game, but I thought Alex Fenton and Cody Bowker did really well on the mound for us. Ubaldo Lopez has that home run for us and Micahel Eze, Austin Kretzschmar, Angelo D'Acunto and Jordan Kahn all swung the bat well, recording multi-hit games for us.

In game two I am really proud of how we bounced back. They had a really good arm on the mound, and we did a good job scoring early. Those two runs in the third helped get the offense going and gave us momentum as the game went on. Marco Castillo getting his first home run here at Georgetown as a pinch hitter was awesome to see and proved to be vital for us. The story of the day was Jake Bloss with one hit and 12 strikeouts. That was as dominant as I have seen him since he has been here, and he commanded both sides of the plate. Tyler Mead came in and closed things down for us which was great to see. Fourteen hits by our offense was great to see and I am just really proud of our guys. We are looking forward to getting out here tomorrow and trying to win a series." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

Hyde stepped up to the plate and hit a sac fly to center scoring Carapellotti for the Hoyas first tally of the game. After an Eze single that moved Lopez to second, Ficca would fly out, moving Lopez to third. Kretzschmar stepped up to the plate and laced a double to right center scoring Lopez. GU would take the 2-0 lead into the fourth.
