WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history with a 19-17 victory over Yale on Saturday evening. With the win, the Hoyas move on to face Virginia in quarterfinals next Saturday in Albany, New York.
Hoya Highlights
- Tucker Dordevic scored a game-high six goals to lead Georgetown and set the program's single season goals record with 63. With his sixth goal of the game, he also reached the 200-point career scoring mark.
- Making his first start of the season, Nicky Solomon added five goals and an assist while Brian Minicus led all players with seven points on four goals and three assists. Minicus also netted the eventual game-winner with 3:49 remaining in the game.
- Graham Bundy Jr. had two goals while Aidan Carroll and Will Godine both added another.
- Jack Leary had two assists in transition while TJ Haley and Declan McDermott both added lone assists.
- Defensively, Wallace Halpert was credited with four caused turnovers to go with four ground balls while Dylan Hess tallied four caused turnovers with two ground balls. Will Tominovich had a pair of caused turnovers as well with four ground balls.
- James Reilly won 15 of 29 (.517) and hauled in eight ground balls.
- In goal, Danny Hincks (7-3) collected 10 saves in the win.
How it Happened
- Dordevic put the Hoyas on the board first just 37 seconds into the game and Georgetown led 3-2 at the 7:32 mark before Yale posted six unanswered goals to close out the quarter to lead 8-3.
- Georgetown responded in full in the second by scoring the first four goals of the frame, including another three from Dordevic, before the Bulldogs finally scored at the 6:42 mark to give Yale a 9-7 advantage. Undeterred, the Hoyas added another three goals to close out the frame to lead 10-9 after Solomon's goal with 67 left on the clock.
- Another back-and-forth scoring spree highlighted the third quarter. Georgetown scored the first two and final pair of goals in the stanza, but they were matched by Yale's 6-1 run over a six-minutes span mid-quarter. Heading into the final 15 minutes of action, the two high-powered offenses were tied at 15-15.
- Neither side was willing to concede in the fourth, trading goals all quarter to a 17-17 tie with 6:50 to play. Minicus' goal with 3:49 remaining gave the Hoyas the 18-17 advantage and Solomon added a cushion goal with 2:32 to play as the Hoyas held their guest at bay the rest of the way en route to the 19-17 victory.
Yale Notes
- Chris Lyons led the Bulldogs with four goals while both Matt Brandau and Leo Johnson had three goals and two assists.
- Nicholas Ramsey won 20 of 36 (.555) faceoffs and collected a game-high 14 ground balls.
- In goal, Jared Paquette had 12 saves in the loss.

- Georgetown's win is the first over Yale in program history and avenges a 19-16 loss to the Bulldogs in the 2019 NCAA First Round.
- With his 63 goals on the year, Dordevic passes Daniel Bucaro's ('19) single season goal record of 61 set in 2019.
- Reilly eclipses the 900 career faceoff wins milestone, becoming the eighth NCAA Division I player to reach the mark.
- Minicus' seven points are tied for the second most in an NCAA Tournament game for the Hoyas, tying Andy Flick's seven against Cornell in 2000.
- Dordevic's six goals are the second most in an NCAA Tournament game, just two shy of Bucaro's eight against Yale in 2019.
- Georgetown has now won 13-straight following an 0-3 start to the season, continuing a school record for consecutive victories.
