HOYAS WIN! Georgetown Advances to BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team defeated the Xavier Musketeers 6-5 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Georgetown captured its first road series win against Xavier since 2015. The Hoyas also clinched a berth in the BIG EAST Championships for the second-consecutive season. This is the first time in program history that Georgetown has advanced to postseason play in back-to-back seasons.

ON THE RECORD
"What a day for our organization. In my 19 years of coaching, I haven't been more of a group than these guys. We fought a lot of things this year to get to this point. Having it come down to our final two games and it being must wins, we were able to execute, and I am just so proud of our guys. The leadership our guys have is unbelievable. Carson Frye as a senior started out there for us and competed hard and then Tyler Mead, Kai Leckszas and Jordan Yoder were able to close it out for us. Our offense of Jake Hyde, Owen Carapellotti and Michael Eze stepped up big for us with the home runs. Being the first team in program history to make it to postseason play in back-to-back seasons is an unbelievable feeling but the work isn't done yet. At the end of the day our goal each season is to have a chance to go win a championship and we look forward to game one on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing Hoya Nation out at Prasco Park and I just couldn't be prouder to be the head coach of Georgetown. I am so thankful for everyone involved in our organization from our athletes and staff to all of our alumni." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

Walker would also come home in the ensuing at bat on a passed ball giving the GU its first lead of the day.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Xavier added one run on an RBI single to center tying the game at five all. In the top of the seventh, Carapellotti hit a leadoff home run to deep left field and GU took the lead once again at 6-5.
