Men’s Soccer Announces 2022 Awards

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team announced the recipients of the team awards for the 2022 campaign. The Hoyas had an impressive year winning the regular season and advancing to the BIG EAST Championship game as well as earning an NCAA Tournament berth and making it to the Round of 16.

Most Valuable Player
Daniel Wu
Defender
Cary, N.C. / Panther Creek
  • The defender was a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America selection and named First Team All-East Region by the organization.
  • Wu was the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and named First Team All-BIG EAST.
  • He started in all 19 games he appeared in this past season with one goal on the year.
  • The senior was part of a defense that posted seven shutouts this past year.
  • The captain was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on 10/24 and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 9/26.
  • He was the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team.
  • Wu graduated in December with a degree in economics and is currently playing with Greenville Triumph SC.
Most Improved Player
Maximus Jennings
Defender
Montclair, N.J. / The Hotchkiss School
  • Jennings appeared in 16 games with 14 starts to his credit. He moved into the backline early in the season and became a mainstay.
  • The sophomore had not seen game action the year prior, but worked to get into the starting lineup midway through the 2022 campaign.
  • Jennings was part of a defense that posted seven shutouts this past year.
Ricardo Mendoza Award
Given to the player who exhibits spirit, leadership and dedication

Aidan Rocha
Midfielder
Brookeville, Md. / St. John's College High School
  • Rocha was the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and named First Team All-BIG EAST, in the postseason he earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
  • The local product was named First Team All-East Region by the United Soccer Coaches.
  • He started in all 20 games he appeared in this past season and ranked fourth on the squad in scoring with three goals and as many assists for nine points.
  • The team captain had a pair of game winners on the season.
  • He transitioned to the midfield early this past season after beginning on the backline, his presence was immediately felt as the team went on a run.
  • Rocha graduated from Georgetown in December with a philosophy degree and was selected by DC United with the 60th overall selection of the 2023 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
  • He is currently playing with Loudoun United FC.
     
Luis Mendez Award
Selected by their peers, this award is given to the player whose dedication to the team is exhibited through selfless actions and giving to others.

Dominic De Almeida
Defender
Lincoln Park, N.J. / Morris County School of Technology
  • De Almeida appeared in one game for the Hoyas this past season after battling injury.
  • He led the team in its community service initiatives throughout the season.
  • In three seasons the defender appeared in 16 games with two starts to his credit.
