WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Men's Soccer Head Coach
Brian Wiese announced the 2023 schedule presented by MedStar Health on Thursday. The slate consists of three exhibitions and 16 regular season contests including nine contests on the Hilltop which will begin in mid-August.
Georgetown will face five teams that appeared in the 2022 NCAA Championship including four that finished the season ranked among the top 25. The Blue & Gray advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals a season ago and finished the season ranked No. 20 in the nation.
The Hoyas will host Penn State for an exhibition match on August 11 before playing at American and home against Duke on August 14 and 18 to close out the preseason.
Georgetown's first regular season contest will be on the West Coast as GU travels to Santa Clara on Thursday, August 24 and then faces Stanford on Sunday, August 27.
A matchup against Pittsburgh marks the Blue & Gray's home opener on Friday, September 1 with a contest against Fordham closing out the long weekend at home on Labor Day. The Hoyas will then make the short trip to College Park, Maryland to face the Terrapins on Friday, September 8 in an evening showdown.
Three more nonconference games will be sprinkled in throughout the BIG EAST schedule as GU hosts James Madison on Tuesday, September 19 before traveling to Princeton on Tuesday, October 3. The final out–of-conference game is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24 against UNC-Wilmington at Shaw Field.
GU will begin BIG EAST Conference play on the road at Seton Hall (September 15) and then travel to Xavier on September 23. Georgetown's first home league matchup is scheduled for Friday, September 29 against Butler.
As BIG EAST Conference play continues to roll, the Blue & Gray will face three opponents at home including UConn (October 7), Villanova (October 18) and St. John's (October 21).
The Hoyas will hit the road traveling to Providence (October 14) and Marquette (October 28) to close out the regular season.
New in 2023, the Akron Zips will be joining the league in soccer resulting in changes for scheduling and the postseason. There are now two regional divisions, and each team is scheduled to play eight conference games, including each of the five teams in their respective divisions, and three teams from the out-of-region division.
Eight teams will make the BIG EAST Tournament in 2023. The team with the highest overall conference points will secure the No. 1 seed. The team in the opposite division with the highest conference point total will secure the No. 2 seed. The remaining six seeds, regardless of division, will be determined by conference point total. The top four seeds will host first round games on November 4.
The semifinal and final will be played at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland. The two semifinal games are scheduled for Thursday, November 9, while the championship game will be Sunday, November 12.
