WASHINGTON – Hoyas Kaira Brown and Kelly Grace Richardson have been named to participate in The Team's inaugural Engaged Athlete Fellowship. 

Brown, of Georgetown women's track & field, and Richardson, of Georgetown men's rowing, are two of just 28 college athletes selected nationally to participate in the prestigious program which will be run for the first time this year. 

The Team is a nonpartisan organization that creates programming focused on integrating civic engagement into college athletics. 

The Engaged Athlete Fellowship will empower and support a diverse group of motivated student athletes to promote civic engagement in their teams, campuses, and communities at large. 

Each of the Engaged Athlete Fellows will develop a project in their local community involving civic engagement and community service. They will be supported by The Team's leadership and professional development curriculum and participate in a multi-day forum in Washington, D.C.

Founded in 2020, The Team has engaged over 54,000 athletes, coaches, and administrators nationwide, planned over 600 Election Day events on college campuses, and collaborated with leaders such as Stephen Curry and Condoleezza Rice. 

The award-winning organization partnered with Bridge Alliance Education Fund to bring the Engaged Athlete Fellowship to life.

Brown is a first-year student in Georgetown's Masters in Public Policy program and will be running with the Hoyas this year. Richardson, a sophomore at Georgetown, is the coxswain for the Georgetown men's rowing team. 
Both Brown and Richardson will be able to develop their leadership skills, receive mentorship, and promote civic engagement within the Hoya community through The Team's new initiative.
