WASHINGTON – Georgetown University placed 387 student-athletes from 22 different sports on the 2022-23 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, when the conference announced the honors on Tuesday.
More than 3,000 BIG EAST student-athletes were selected from the 11 member institutions, along with affiliate members. The 387 student-athletes selected from Georgetown led the conference with Villanova in second at 339 and both Xavier and UConn managing 266. Affiliate student-athletes made up 161 of the honorees.
Men's lacrosse led all Hoya programs with 46 student-athletes selected, while men's track & field/cross country was second with 34 honorees. Women's lacrosse had 33 student-athletes recognized, while women's track & field/cross country boasted 32. Baseball had 31 and women's soccer rounded out top squads at 30.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 11 member schools and five affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There were 3,004 honorees for the 2022-23 academic year.
