GU Women’s Golf in First at Princeton Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team sits in first place following 36 holes at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday with a nine-stroke lead on the field at 8-over 576 (283-293). The Hoyas are the first in the 12-team field, all competing on the par-71, 6,109-yard course at the Springdale Golf Course in Princeton, New Jersey.
 
FOLLOW THE HOYAS
  • GolfStat will be used to score the two-day tournament with a link to the live scoring available on GUHoyas.com.
  • The tournament will continue with the final 18 holes on Sunday with a shotgun start set for 9 a.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Morgan Smith is currently in second place overall and the top Hoya in the field with a 1-under 141 (68-73) following 36 holes. An impressive first round, Smith went 3-under with three birdies and 15 pars. In the second round, she tallied one birdie to total four on the day.
  • Claire Chen, playing as an individual, is tied for sixth place with a 3-over 145 (72-73) over the first two rounds. She managed five birdies on the day with two in round one and three in round two. In the second round, she tallied three birdies over the first four holes on the back nine.
  • Jiaying Lai is tied for eighth place at 4-over 146 (73-73). Over two rounds, the freshman managed six birdies and 21 pars. In the first round, she managed three birdies over four holes.
  • Megan Gormley is also tied for eighth place at 8-over 146 (71-75). She tallied six birdies on the day, with three in each round The captain managed back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6.
  • Georgia Ruffolo is tied for 13th at 5-over 147 (71-76) following two rounds of play at Springdale. She turned in five total birdies with a trio in round one and a pair in round two. She was able to register back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 in the first round.
  • Vilda Westh Blanc is tied for 27th at 9-over 151 (79-72). She had one birdie and 25 pars on the day.
  • Angela Lee is also tied for 27th at 9-over 151 (76-75). She tallied one birdie in the second round and 25 pars over 36 holes.
 
OF NOTE
  • In the first round, the Hoyas went 1-under 283. The performance is the second-best team round in program history, behind a 3-under 285 in the third round at the 2016 Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
