WASHINGTON — Georgetown University's women's volleyball team defeated Virginia Commonwealth University in three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) to wrap up the VCU Invitational. The win brings the Hoyas to a 2-1 record at the tournament and a 5-1 record on the season. VCU finishes 2-1 in the tournament and move to 3-2 overall.
"Extremely proud of the team's ability to bounce back from yesterday's match," said Head Coach
AJ Bonetti. "We had everyone contributing today and it was a fun match to be a part of."
Hoya Highlights:
- A well-rounded offense led the way for the Hoyas, with Grace Albaugh (11), Peyton Wilhite (10), and Kamryn Lee-Caracci (10) scoring double-digit kills. For the freshmen Albaugh and Lee-Caracci these were career highs.
- Lee-Caracci also played a key role on defense with a game-high seven total blocks
- Across the entire invitational, Wilhite was an offensive force with 36 kills in three games. Mary Grace Goyena added 33 kills, while Lee-Caracci had 27 on an impressive .468 hitting percentage.
- Lee-Caracci and Wilhite anchored the defense with 14 and 12 total blocks respectively in the tournament. Libero Karis Park added 39 digs
VCU Notes:
- Seniors Ana Brangioni and Jasmine Knight led VCU with six kills each. Brangioni added 14 digs.
- Their loss to Georgetown breaks a three-game winning streak that saw VCU drop just one set.
Up Next for the Hoyas:
The D.C. Invitational brings Georgetown home for the first time this season, hosting Old Dominion at 11 a.m. Friday. The game is the first of a double header, as they will take on North Alabama at 7 p.m.
