Georgetown Travels to Hartford for Sunday Matchup at No. 4/4 UConn

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to Hartford, Connecticut this weekend for a matchup with the No. 4/4/ UConn Huskies on Sunday, January 14. Tipoff at the XL Center is scheduled for noon and the game will be broadcast on FOX. Georgetown is coming off a loss to Seton Hall on Tuesday after a close battle, while UConn is looking to continue its four-game win streak. UConn, with its recent successes and wins over ranked opponents earlier in the season, is going into Sunday's matchup with an overall record of 14-2 and a conference record of 4-1.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off a tough battle with Seton Hall on Tuesday night. The Hoyas took their first lead of the game with 3:57 in regulation after a second-half surge, but ultimately fell to the Pirates 74-70. Jayden Epps led all scorers with 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor, with five 3-pointers, five assists and a trio of rebounds. Supreme Cook managed 13 points while leading the Hoyas on the boards with five rebounds. Jay Heath was the third Hoya to reach double figures with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.
  • Epps' 18.2 ppg ranks second in the BIG EAST, while Styles (13.6) and Cook (10.6) trail him to make a trio of Hoyas in double figures.
  • Cook's 7.9 rpg leads the team and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Rowan Brumbaugh's 19 steals this season tops the Hoyas while his 1.3 spg ranks 13th in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Epps paces the offense with 4.2 apg while Brumbaugh shares the duties, dishing out 2.9 apg. Epps ranks eighth in the league in assists while his 2.6 3-pointers per game is good enough for fourth in the conference.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE NO. 4/4 HUSKIES
  • With four Huskies posting double figures, the No. 4/4 UConn men's basketball team picked up its fourth-straight win in BIG EAST play with an 80-75 victory over Xavier on Wednesday at Cintas Center. Cam Spencer contributed 19 points while Tristen Newton chipped in 16. Spencer, Newton and Stephon Castle each tallied six rebounds on the night, with Newton also tacking on 11 assists to his credit.
  • Castle was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the third time on Monday, after he averaged 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Huskies with wins over DePaul and Butler.
  • On Wednesday, Newton was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List for leading the Huskies in both rebounds (6.4 rpg) and assists (6.0 apg), while also boasting 15.2 ppg.
  • UConn has four Huskies averaging double figures led by Spencer's 15.4 ppg, followed by Newton (15.2), Alex Karaban (14.8) and Donovan Clingan (13.9).
  • The defending national champion Huskies are led by Head Coach Dan Hurley, in his sixth season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH UCONN
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 73rd all-time between the two programs, dating back to 1958. The Hoyas and the Huskies are even all-time with each team holding a record of 36-36. However, the Huskies hold the 20-12 advantage at home and have won the last six.
  • In the last contest, two Hoyas scored in double figures as Georgetown fell 68-62 in the District.
