Georgetown Heads to Providence on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will close out a two-game road swing with a BIG EAST Conference matchup against the Providence College Friars on Wednesday evening at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports presented by Invesco QQQ.

  • Georgetown is sitting at 12-4 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • GU is coming off of a heartbreaking 53-51 overtime loss at Villanova on Wednesday afternoon at Finneran Pavilion.
  • Junior Brianna Scott led the way for the Hoyas with a double-double 13 points and 13 rebounds as well as four blocks and two assists.
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett added 13 points and nine boards, while classmate Alex Cowan rounded out those in double figures with 11 points.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom had eight points as well as five rebounds and seven assists in the contest.
  • The Hoyas shot 32.8% (21-64) from the field, and the Blue & Gray allowed 31.3% (20-64) shooting by the Wildcats.
  • GU outrebounded VU 52-42, and Georgetown forced 10 'Cat turnovers on four steals.
  • Ransom leads the team in almost all categories. She is 11th in the league in scoring (14.7 ppg), 14th in rebounding (6.0 rpg), fifth in assists (3.8 apg) and is third in the league with an impressive 2.6 steals per game.
  • Bennett is second on the team with 9.6 ppg as well as a team-best 7.8 rpg which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST. She is one of only two players in the league who is averaging a double-double in BIG EAST play with 11.6 ppg and 10.0 rpg.
  • Scott rounds out the top three with 9.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg and 1.9 blocks per game, the block total puts her first in the conference.
  • The Hoyas are leading the league and ranked eighth in the nation in scoring defense averaging 51.9 ppg.
About the Friars
  • Providence is 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the league after an 81-70 loss at then-No. 22/21 Creighton on Sunday.
  • PC has lost its last three contests, but have faced some of the top teams in the league including nationally-ranked UConn (85-41) and St. John's (55-48).
  • The last victory was a 72-65 triumph over DePaul on January 3.
  • Olivia Olsen leads the Friars in scoring with 14.4 ppg to go along with 9.1 rpg, Grace Efosa is second posting 11.9 ppg and Brynn Farrell rounds out the top three averaging 10.2 ppg.
  • The Friars are led by first-year Head Coach Erin Batth who came to Providence from Michigan.

  • The Hoyas are 41-32 all-time against the Friars dating back to the 1981-82 season and 18-17 on the road.
