Ransom Earns Preseason All-BIG EAST

NEW YORK CITY - Graduate student guard Kelsey Ransom earned BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York on Wednesday. Additionally, the Hoyas were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 66 points.
 
The event is attended by Head Coach Darnell Haney as well as student-athletes Victoria Rivera, Chetanna Nweke, Brianna Scott and Ransom. Players and coaches meet with national media outlets to talk about the upcoming 2024-25 season. Promotional material is filmed during the event to be used on FOX and BIG EAST Digital Network broadcasts throughout the season.

Preseason All-BIG EAST
  • Named the 2023-24 BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and a First Team All-BIG EAST selection as well as earning a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
  • Ransom was also named 2022-23 Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST as a junior.
  • A two-year team captain selection.
  • She has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week, BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and nine BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nods in her career.
  • Ransom started all 35 games for the Hoyas last season and led Georgetown in scoring, assists and steals during the 2023-24 season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
  • The graduate student finished 12th in the BIG EAST in scoring and fourth in assists as well as fifth in steals, while being among the top three players in the league in minutes played.
  • Ransom has seven-career double-doubles.
  • In her career on the Hilltop, Ransom has 1385 points to average 12.6 points per game.
  • Her 422 assists rank her seventh on GU's all-time list, and her 258 steals place her at sixth in Georgetown history.
  • She also has 576 career rebounds to sit at 23rd all-time.
BIG EAST Coaches' Poll - 5th
  • Georgetown was picked to finish fifth with 66 points in the preseason coaches' poll as voted on by the league's head coaches.
  • UConn collected 100 points and 10 first-place votes to sit on top. Creighton finished second with 91 points and the remaining first-place vote, while Providence was slotted third with 71 points.
  • St. John's sat in fourth with 67 points, and the Hoyas were in the fifth spot with 66 points in the poll.
  • Villanova was picked sixth (56 points) followed by Seton Hall in seventh (51 points) and Butler in eighth (46 points).
  • DePaul was selected at ninth with 24 points just ahead of Marquette at 23 points, while Xavier rounded out the poll in 11th with 10 points.
