WASHINGTON - The fourth-seeded Georgetown University men's soccer team will continue its BIG EAST Championship run with a semifinal match against the top-seeded Akron Zips on Thursday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Anthony Mazzini.

• Georgetown (9-4-5) is coming off of a 1-0 win against the Creighton Bluejays in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Saturday at Shaw Field.
• The game winner came in the final seconds of the first half as three sophomores connected and Mateo Ponce Ocampo scored his first career goal to make it 1-0 going into the break.
• On Tuesday, Tate Lampman was named Freshman of the Year marking the first Hoya to win the award since Derek Dodson in 2017.
• Senior Maximus Jennings, sophomore Matthew Van Horn and junior Zach Zengue were all named First Team All-BIG EAST.  Senior Joe Buck, Lampman, junior Tenzing Manske and graduate student Marlon Tabora earned spots on the third team rounding out the Hoyas who were recognized.
• Van Horn is leading the Hoya offense with six goals and three assists for 15 points on the season.
• Freshman Mitchell Baker and Zengue follow just behind with 11 points apiece. Baker has four goals and three assists, while Zengue has managed three goals and five assists on the year.
• Manske has seen a majority of the minutes in the net for the Hoyas. He holds a 0.58 goals-against average and a 0.800 save percentage to go along with 32 saves, an 8-4-2 record and nine shutouts for the year.
• The Hoyas are leading the country in shutouts with 11, and Manske is ranked second in the nation in GAA.
• The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 24 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and sit at No. 10 in the RPI.

About the Zips

• Akron got here by defeating eighth-seeded DePaul on Saturday by a score of 3-1.
• The Zips are currently 11-3-4 overall and ranked No. 13 in the nation.
• Emil Jaaskelainen was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year on Tuesday as he led the NCAA with 22 goals on the season as well as six game winners.
• Beto Ydrach was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as Akron managed eight shutouts, while Mitch Budler earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year with a 0.94 GAA on the season.
• Seven Akron men's soccer players garnered All-BIG EAST accolades when the league unveiled in 2024 award winners in a vote of the league coaches released on Tuesday.

• The Hoyas are 1-2-1 all-time against the Zips, this is the first postseason meeting for the teams and the second in a neutral site after GU and Akron tied 2-2 in 1991 at the Cleveland State Tournament.
• Earlier this season, the Hoyas fell 1-0 at Shaw Field despite outshooting the Zips 17-8. Budler came up big in the contest with eight saves in the match.
