WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 84-63 on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-1 on the season while the Irish improve to 3-0.
ON THE RECORD
"When you score, you get energy. When you don't score, it takes your energy and then everybody feels like they have to make the next shot, versus trusting what we're trying to do, which is playing basketball the right way. At the end of the day, you get your energy off your defense. When you're getting stops, most of the time you get out on transition and score." - Head Coach
Ed Cooley
"I? thought we had a really good week preparing for that team. I don't think we came out hungry. I personally thought we were more prepared. Coach thought we were more prepared. I feel like now we see what it takes. We have a good team and we need to keep building chemistry. It's just one game. We can't get can't get too high, we can't get too low. I feel like we just need to bounce back better. Trust our preparation and trust the things that Coach Cooley is telling us to do. It's just one game. We'll bounce back." -
Jayden Epps
"It is just one game. We have a lot to learn. It's a young team. We've just got to get in the film room and get better." -
Micah Peavy

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown got on the board first with back-to-back buckets from Drew Fielder and Jordan Burks to take a quick 4-0 lead. However, the Hoyas went cold from the field just as Notre Dame started to heat up, taking a 19-7 lead (12:12).
- A Malik Mack triple off an ND turnover ended the drought as GU's defense started to stifle Notre Dame's offensive effort. Three forced turnovers over 1:53 led to five unanswered points for Georgetown and cut the deficit to six (21-15) to bring the crowd to its feet.
- Another Mack trey down the stretch closed the gap to four (26-22) with 5:24 on the clock but the Irish closed the frame on an 18-7 run to take a 44-29 lead into the locker room.
- The second half continued in similar fashion but a quick 9-2 spurt fueled a pair of Epps treys followed by a Burks traditional three-point play gave the Hoyas some life as they cut the deficit to 10 (50-40).
- The Irish stepped on the gas to balloon the lead to as many as 25 (79-54, 4:27) as they cruised to a 84-63 victory.
Of Note
- Micah Peavy pulled down his 500th career rebound in the contest. He is also 11 points away from 1,000 career points.
