Georgetown Faces Howard in Crosstown Battle

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will continue its six-game road swing with a short trip across The District to face the Howard University Bison on Sunday afternoon. The contest is scheduled to tip at 2 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (3-3) is coming off of a win over Boston University prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Hoyas held on for the 69-61 win marking GU's third of the young season.
  • GU was bolstered by four in double figures as freshman Jayden McBride led the Hoyas with a career-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins managed 16 points and a squad-best eight boards.
  • Junior Victoria Rivera and freshman Khadee Hession rounded out those in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Earlier in the week, graduate student Kelsey Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Ransom averaged 23.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in a three-game week for Georgetown.
  • Ransom is fourth in the league in scoring (19.2 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (7.0 rpg) as well as third in assists (4.5 apg) and eighth in steals (2.3 spg).
  • Rivera is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.8 ppg. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 19, and is second in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 47.5 percent.
  • Jenkins rounds out the top three with a pair of double-doubles on the season and 12.5 ppg. Jenkins is second in the league on the glass with 8.8 rpg and sits at second in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 2.1 per game.
  • Sunday is the fourth of the six-game road swing for the Blue & Gray. GU will not return to McDonough Arena until December 9 despite playing two upcoming games in The District.
About the Bison
  • Howard is 5-2 on the season and most recently defeated William & Mary, 74-63, on Friday in Williamsburg, Virginia.
  • HU's two losses have come at the hands of VCU (72-48) and East Carolina (65-44).
  • Leading the way for Howard is Destiny Howell who is averaging 16.4 ppg on the season.
  • HU was selected to finish first in the MEAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Additionally, four Bison earned Preseason All-MEAC honors including Howell and Tyana Walker on the first team.
  • Howard will continue its BIG EAST swing as the Bison travel to South Orange, New Jersey on Friday to take on Seton Hall.
Series Info
  • Georgetown is 9-9 all-time against the Bison, but the squads have only met twice since the year 2000.
  • The last meeting was a 45-43 Hoya victory a season ago at McDonough Arena.
  • Ransom led the way scoring 12 points and pulling down 14 boards in the contest. She also led the Hoyas with four assists and as many steals.
  • The last time the teams played at Howard was an 81-65 GU loss in December of 1985.
