Georgetown Opens BIG EAST Play at No. 2 UConn

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will open BIG EAST Conference play on Sunday afternoon as the Hoyas face the No. 2 UConn Huskies in Hartford, Connecticut at XL Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday will be a rematch of the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament championship game.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (6-4) is coming off of a 63-55 loss to the George Mason Patriots on Monday evening at McDonough Arena.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the Hoyas with 28 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins dominated down low posting her third double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-best 16 rebounds.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 40.0% (22-55) from the field, and held the Patriots to 30.2% (19-63) in the contest.
  • Ransom leads the league in scoring (21.1 ppg) and sixth in assists (4.2 apg) as well as seventh in steals (2.3 spg).
  • Jenkins is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.1 ppg with a trio of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 10.0 rpg and sits at fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.4 per game.
  • Junior Victoria Rivera rounds out the top three in scoring averaging 12.6 ppg. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 28, and is third in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 40.6 percent.
About the Huskies
  • The second-ranked Huskies are 8-1 on the season as the squad suffered its first defeat of the year on Thursday evening at No. 8 Notre Dame, 79-68.
  • Paige Bueckers led the Huskies with 25 points in the loss, while Sarah Strong scored 14.
  • Bueckers leads the squad with 19.6 ppg and Strong is second averaging 16.0 ppg as well as a team-high 7.6 rpg.
  • Azzi Fudd rounds out the three in double figures with 10.0 ppg, however, Fudd missed the Notre Dame game due to injury.
Series Info
  • This will be the 62nd meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 1982, with UConn leading the series 55-6.
  • Last year, GU lost both regular season meetings and then fell in the BIG EAST Tournament championship game by a score of 78-42.
  • The last meeting in Hartford was a 65-50 loss during the 2022-23 season.
  • The teams have met in the BIG EAST Tournament the past three seasons meaning Sunday will be the 11th time Ransom will face off against UConn in her career.
