Hoyas Host Xavier on Monday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return to league play hosting the Xavier University Musketeers in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Monday evening at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (7-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) is coming off of a big 78-68 victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday evening to close out nonconference play. GU ended out-of-league matchups with a mark of 7-4.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the way with 29 points, six rebounds, seven assists and one steal.
  • Junior Victoria Rivera was also in double figures scoring 13 points and pulling down three boards.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 47.8% (22-46) from the field, and held the Hawks to 40.3% (27-67) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by UMES, 37-33, and forced 15 Hawk turnovers on 10 steals.
  • Ransom is second in the league in scoring (20.6 ppg) and second in assists (4.3 apg) as well as seventh in steals (2.0 spg).
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins is second on the team in scoring averaging 12.4 ppg with a trio of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 9.7 rpg and sits at sixth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.3 per game.
  • Rivera rounds out the top three in scoring averaging 12.1 ppg. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 32, and is fourth in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 38.6 percent.
About the Musketeers
  • Xavier is 5-7 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play.
  • The squad has been off since December 22, when the Musketeers defeated Fordham 71-62 in the second game of the Raising the B.A.R. Invitational in Berkeley, California.
  • XU's lone BIG EAST contest was an 82-54 loss to Creighton on December 4.
  • Xavier is led by Meri Kanerva who is averaging 11.3 ppg. Loren Christie is second on the squad with 10.6 ppg as well as a squad-best 5.8 rpg.
  • Head Coach Billi Chambers is in her second season at the helm for the Musketeers.
Series Info
  • Monday will be the 26th meeting between the two teams dating back to 1995-96, with GU holding the 16-9 advantage.
  • The Hoyas are 7-3 at home against the Musketeers.
