OMAHA, Neb. – The Georgetown University men's basketball team could not overcome a hot first half from the No. 17 Creighton Bluejays, falling 94-72 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on Tuesday night. With the loss, Georgetown is now 8-16 on the season with a 1-12 mark in BIG EAST play while the Bluejays improve to 18-7 on the year with a 9-5 mark in the league action.

ON THE RECORD
"[Creighton] shot the ball really, really well. They had great ball movement, great body movement, they were very, very comfortable. Incredible atmosphere. Our defense continues to be something we gotta continue to work on. Many of us are in a situation where you could easily put your head down given what we're going through, but that's part of the process for growth and development. But I think today was more about how well Creighton played. So you've gotta give them a lot of credit - great energy, great crowd, great BIG EAST game. We've gotta give ourselves a chance from a defensive standpoint but in saying that, I thought they were just clicking on all cylinders and we just had a tough time matching up to them … I liked our energy to start but again, our turnovers, our lack of alertness, many of those things caught up to us against a top 20 team."  - Head Coach Ed Cooley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Supreme Cook tallied his seventh double-double of the season with a squad-best 19 points, 13 in the second half, on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. He chipped in a game-best 11 rebounds while adding a pair of steals on the night.
  • Jayden Epps managed 17 points on six made buckets, including a trio of triples, as well as three assists.
  • Dontrez Styles chipped in 13 points while Rowan Brumbaugh added 11, all in the second frame, to round out those in double figures.
  • Wayne Bristol Jr. paced the offense with four assists.
  • Georgetown shot 42.6% (26-61) for the game but allowed Creighton 58.6% (34-58) shooting for the game.
  • The Bluejays outrebounded Georgetown 33-30.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas got off to a hot start, taking a quick 4-0 lead following a Styles triple. However, the home team was able to swing the momentum back as Creighton reeled off six unanswered to take the 6-4 advantage early.
  • Georgetown tallied back-to-back buckets from Epps and Jay Heath to regain the lead, but it was short lived as the Bluejays knocked down a 3-pointer on the other end to take it right back, 9-8.
  • Trading triples through the frame, the score went back and forth with the Hoyas pulling within one (15-14) on an Epps trey. Creighton responded with a 13-0 run to lead 28-14 with 7:24 in the frame. The 17th-ranked Bluejays took a 46-27 lead into the break.
  • Out of the locker room, both squads traded points but the Blue & Gray relied on the charity stripe early before shots started to drop, cutting the deficit to 14 (53-39) on a Cook conventional three-point play.
  • That's as close as GU would get as the Bluejays cruised to a 94-72 victory at the final whistle.
