ON THE RECORD
"Give credit to Cal, they did a great job today. They scored like they needed to in the fourth and fifth innings and it was really difficult for us giving up all those runs. I am really proud of Nick Davis and how he came out of the bullpen as well as Andrew Jergins and Ayden Head. I thought Cody Bowker gave us a decent start we just couldn't get much offensively. We had chances early in the game to punch some guys out and unfortunately, we didn't do it and that is something we have to get better at and will get better at. I thought Owen Carapellotti swung the bat well tonight going 3-for-5 and a couple guys had some decent hits, but we couldn't string it together consistently. We will reset and get ready for another great team tomorrow and we will have a chance to improve on what we did today." – Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the bottom half of the inning, Eze earned a two out walk and then Carapellotti hit a single moving him to second. Hollerbach stepped up to the plate and laced a single to left bringing Eze home giving GU an early 1-0 lead. GU was then able to load the bases but was unable to bring the runners home leaving three stranded in the bottom of the first.
  • After a scoreless top of the second, GU was able to get runners on first and second with one out. The Hoyas were unable to bring the runners home as Cal retired the next two batters for GU.

  • In the top of the fourth, Cal hit a solo home run to even the score. The Golden Bears tacked on three more taking a 4-1 advantage into the bottom of the fourth.
  • In the fifth, Cal added five more runs with two coming off of solo home runs. In the bottom half of the inning, Eze scored on a ground out by Christian Ficca cutting the GU deficit to seven.
  • The sixth frame was scoreless for both sides. In the seventh, Eze hit a double to start the inning and a Carapellotti single brought Eze home, cutting the GU deficit to six.
