Georgetown Hosts Butler on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Butler University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena at 2 p.m. It is GU's home finale and Senior Day for the Class of 2024. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports presented by Invesco QQQ.

  • Georgetown is sitting at 17-10 overall and 7-9 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • GU is coming off a big 51-43 win over the St. John's Red Storm on Tuesday at McDonough Arena.
  • Junior Brianna Scott led the way with 21 points, her highest scoring performance of the season, and nine rebounds. 
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom was also in double figures with 11 points and added six rebounds.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 40.7% (22-54) from the field, and Georgetown allowed 30.6% (15-49) shooting by the Red Storm. GU outrebounded St. John's 39-29, and Georgetown forced 12 Red Storm turnovers on six steals.
  • Ransom leads the team in almost all categories. She is 15th in the league in scoring (13.4 ppg), 20th in rebounding (5.0 rpg), fifth in assists (4.1 apg) and is sixth in the league with 2.1 steals per game.
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett is second on the team with 9.4 ppg as well as a team-best 7.2 rpg which ranks 10th in the BIG EAST.
  • Scott rounds out the top three with 9.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg (14th in the BIG EAST) and 1.4 blocks per game, the block total puts her fourth in the conference.
  • The Hoyas are leading the league and ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense averaging 54.9 ppg.
About the Bulldogs
  • Butler stands at 13-13 overall on the season and 5-10 in BIG EAST Conference play. The Bulldogs sit at ninth place in the conference, three spots behind the Hoyas.
  • The Bulldogs are coming off a win over conference opponent Xavier, defeating them 84-46 on Wednesday. This win marks the team's fourth in a row as they recently took down St. John's, Providence, and Villanova.
  • Senior Caroline Strand led the Butler offense with 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists against the Musketeers. The Bulldogs also had three other players scoring double digits, with Rachel Kent adding 15 points, Riley Makalusky contributing 13 points, and Ari Wiggins chipping in 11 points.
  • Butler was a threat from the three-point line against Xavier, shooting 53 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc to knock down 15 total three-pointers.
  • Strand leads the Bulldogs this season, averaging 15.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 2.8 apg. Kent is also averaging double digits, scoring 10.8 ppg.

  • This will be the 23rd meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 2013-14, and the Hoyas are 11-11 against the Bulldogs
