Swimming & Diving Breaks Five School Records and Earns 10 Medals on Day Two of BIG EAST Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming & diving teams earned 10 medals and broke five program records on day two of the BIG EAST Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday evening. The men are currently in first with 304 points, 41 points ahead of Xavier in second while the women sit in third with 412.5 points, 74 points behind UConn in second. 

ON THE RECORD. 
"I love how we showed up and attacked all of our events. We were really loud on the pool deck and showed a lot of energy. I think we have created a lot of momentum moving into the third day of the meet and I am excited to see what we can do,"- said Head Coach Jack Leavitt about the second day of the meet. 

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • All five men's divers advanced to the 3m finals, including Nico Santiago who captured gold with a score of 342.70.
  • Jack Januario broke a program record while also earning first in the 500 free with a time of 4:22.43.
  • In the 500 free, Kira Agne shaved 5.43 seconds off her preliminary time to earn third and set a school record with a time of 4:50.02.
  • Erin Hood and Angelica Reali went second and third in the 200 IM with times of 2:0014 and 2:00.53, respectively. Hood's time broke her previous school record that she set earlier this season. 
  • In the men's 200 IM, Jack Brearton and Nick Pezzella took second and third with times of 1:48.41 and 1:48.98, respectively.
  • Freshman Madeline Malone earned a third place finish in the 50 free with a time of 23.10.
  • Shaun Kronenwetter set a new school record while placing second in the 50 free with a time of 20.03
  • In the women's 200 free relay, Malone, Ines Lovato, Taplin Seelbach and Isabella Wylie finished third and set a school record with a time of 1:32.49.
  • In the men's 200 free relay, Kronenwetter, Grant Closson, Ansen Meyer and Bailey DeLuise earned third with a time of 1:21.22.

MEET INFORMATION
  • On Friday and Saturday, swimming prelims will begin at 10 a.m. followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m.
  • Event finals will start at 5:45 p.m. each day. 
  • All Championship action will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports Presented by Invesco QQQ, with wall-to-wall coverage that includes all event preliminaries, finals and awards.
