Hoyas Drop Season Opener 18-10 at Loyola

BALTIMORE – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team dropped its 2024 season opener with an 18-10 setback on the road at Loyola on Saturday afternoon. The No. 11/12 Hoyas fall to 0-1 on the year while the Greyhounds improve to 1-0.

Hoya Highlights How It Happened
  • Georgetown jumped on the board first, winning the opening faceoff and scoring 1:02 into the game off of the first of Crogan's two goals. Loyola responded with four-straight goals to lead 4-1 before the Hoyas closed out the opening frame 2-1 to pull within a pair down 5-3.
  • In the second, Loyola scored the first three goals of the quarter before GU got back-to-back goals from Wray in a 1:02 span to make it 8-5. Following a Greyhound goal, Wray collected a rebound and completed his second quarter hat trick with just seven seconds remaining, but Loyola scored on the ensuing possession with less than a second remaining to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, the two teams traded goals but the Hoyas couldn't make a dent in the Loyola lead as the Greyhounds led 13-8 with 15 minutes to play.
  • Trading goals early, the Blue & Gray couldn't break Loyola's five-goal lead before their hosts scored three unanswered goals to close out the game.
 Loyola Notes
  • Evan James led the Greyhounds with five goals and four assists for nine points.
  • Adam Poitras added four goals and an assist while Matthew Minicus had four goals.
  • Luke Staudt collected 11 saves between the pipes for the win.
Hoya Notes
  • Haley moved into a tie for 21st place on Georgetown's all-time scoring list, matching Rickey Mirabito's 124 career points.
  • Will Tominovich moved into the top-10 all-time on the Hilltop with his 41st career caused turnover.
